2 Dead, Suspect Killed After Police Chase in Northwest Charlotte

A violent series of crimes in Charlotte ended Thursday with police fatally shooting a suspect who kidnapped a woman and fired at officers during a chase, authorities said.
Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Joseph Andrade and one of the victims as 38-year-old Justin Westbrooks Carlton.
The incident began around 4 p.m. when officers responded to a shooting on North Hoskins Road, where two people were found with gunshot wounds. One later died, and the other remains in critical condition. CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings said. The case is being investigated as a homicide and an assault with a deadly weapon.
Shortly after, police say Andrade forced a woman into a car and fled. During a chase, he fired at officers, hitting several patrol cars before crashing near Freedom Drive and Morehead Street. He then ran and continued shooting before police returned fire, killing him.
The kidnapped woman escaped safely. No officers were hurt. Police believe Andrade was the only suspect involved and are still investigating a motive.
