North Carolina jobless rate falls in February for 5th straight month

North Carolina Unemployment rate fell for the fifth straight month in February. The state Commerce Department reported on Friday that North Carolina’s February unemployment rate was 5.7%, compared to 5.9% in January. The U.S. rate in February was 6.2%.
DES says North Carolina’s February 2021 unemployment rate increased 2.1 percentage points from a year ago. The number of people employed increased 4,804 over the last month to a total of 4,746,591 people and decreased by 175,050 over the year. The number of people unemployed decreased by 10,931 people in February, totaling 286,788 unemployed and increased 103,294 over the year.

The next unemployment update is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7 when the county unemployment rates for February 2021 will be released.
